Shampoo Day

The J's swam all day Saturday, so their hair was rinsed afterwards. Because they arrived home late, there was no time to shampoo before church on Sunday and the 4th of July festivities. So, after the movies today guess what I'm doing...hair. I'll take before and after pictures and maybe take my first shot at a vid.

Until next time,

Bantu Knots...Second Attempt

O.K. Yesterday I did Bantu Knots on dry hair with EcoStyler, spritzing my hair with water and cocunut oil combo. It came out awesome. I've tried before on wet hair and it came out really frizzy. I'll try to post pics of the knot out soon. The intersting thing is I do this on the girls hair all the time without any product and it looks just as good.

Until next time,

Cheers

Staple Hair Products...

I've been experimenting with the J's hair as well as mine and reading various blogs regarding natural hair, specifically SistahChick (I love that blog). I can see how it becomes very easy to get caught up in the world of "products" and become a product junkie. Fortunately, I've not gone astray yet but below are staple products we're currently using for maintaining our healthy hair:
- Organix Nourishing Milk Coconut Shampoo
- Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Soap
- Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner
- Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deep Moisture Conditioner
- Giovanni Direct Leave in Conditioner
- Elasta QP Glaze
- Aloe Vera Gel
- Shea Butter mixed with Essential Oils, i.e., Almond, Jojoba, Olive, and Coconut Oils etc. Our hair absolutely loves this stuff.

I can see a difference in the girls hair as it’s less dry and brittle. Now I do have other products that I've had forever such as Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercreme and Curly Pudding but I haven't used them in a very long time. As far as other products are concerned, I placed an order for lil better butter last week and awaiting my shipment. I will let you know how that works on the girls hair as well.

Well guys, enjoy your holiday. Have fun and be safe!

Getting Back to Normal Soon

Wow, I haven't blogged in a while. I will definitely get back to it soon. What's been going on with me: Well, closed our store (physical location) and have been learning how to manipulate the online store (www.ShopDollarD.com).

In addition to that, my kids have been under the weather. I took all three to the doctor as they have three different ailments. Can you believe I left the doctors office with seven (7) different prescriptions. Anyhoo, they are doing much better.

So, needless to say, I've been a tad distracted and I haven't even mentioned all the sorority projects I'm involved in.

I'll get back to normal soon. Bear with me.

Hair Healthy!!!

Wow, I’m learning so much about healthy hair care. There a ton of awesome blogs devoted to natural hair, its care and maintenance. It has officially been 18 months since my last relaxer. My transition consists of cutting my shoulder length damaged hair to the nape of my neck in a bob style with the front longer than the back. Unfortunately, relaxer is remaining on the ends of my hair in the front. I’ve also been trying not to put any more heat in my hair than absolutely necessary. What I’m having the most difficult part with is the styling. My two strand twist look a hot mess. My bun looks even messier. Actually, that’s one reason I haven’t blogged in a few days...reading other blogs and how-to-sites. Wish me luck!!!

Morning Hair-a-Thon

I've known how to "braid and twist" hair practically my entire life. I started doing my cousins hair when I was about nine or ten (maybe younger). Now that my routine includes three little heads in the morning, I'm realizing that I've never learned how to properly care for hair. And to complicate matters further, I’ve decided that I want to transition to natural. My last chemical application was October 2008...yeah for me. So, my daily regime includes styling my three J’s hair and trying to find styles that work for me as well.

JC has a totally different texture than her younger two sisters. She and I both have 4b hair according to Andre Walker’s hair typing system, which admittedly has flaws. JA & JB have 4a hair and have a much longer length than JC. So, I admittedly struggle with products to use on their hair that will work for all three. Currently, JCs hair is in a very cute braided “protective” style as I’m working on making sure her hair remains healthy. The other two are sporting a combination of ponytail twists with Bantu knots.

Are there other moms that have the same struggles as I? Please advise how you get through your daily routines.

Until then,

Awesome Books for our Little Ladies

To Disclose or Not!!!

This morning I decided to remove my daughters name from my original post and include their initials only. With so much nonsense occurring in the world today, I prefer to "not" fully disclose, especially as it relates to my girls. With the advent of the many social networking sites, how do we protect our families when we're either discussing them or they're being socially active online themselves?

I’ve noticed several sites relating to protecting kids from inappropriate material, monitoring internet habits and so on, but my concern is deeper. I guess the real question is should I be overly concerned with revealing my children’s identity online. We’ll talk more on this subject!!! Have a great day!

For reference and good reading material, please review the following Acts: COPPA - Children's Online Privacy Protection Act was enacted to protect kids via parental controls and The Children’s Internet Protection Act addresses children and inappropriate material.

Cookies & Twizzlers

Those are my girls. My smart little cookie as I fondly call my oldest daughter, JC, who recently turned seven. The twizzlers are my youngest two: JA, my four year old and JB, my 19 month old. My three J's hence the name the J Spot.

They are very special and unique little people. Their wants @ this stage in their lives are so very different. JC, whose in first grade excels in school yet when asked what her favorite activities are, she'll quickly reply "playing". JA, the preschooler loves attention (to give and receive), yet she has such a shy and reserved spirit. JB is navigating her way amongst her older two sisters though she's a bit bossy.
